Lecture Series: Religions in the Neighbourhood

RELIGIONS IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Host: St. John's Presbyterian Church
When: Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 2011
Time: 7-9pm

"During the month of November, there will be a series of four lectures at St. John's, to provide an introduction to four of the key religions represented in the Bradford area - Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism/Hinduism.  All lecturers hold high academic degrees and teach or have taught at the university level.  Concluding the series is the lecture, "The Church between the Temple and the Mosque" - addressing the relation of Christianity to these other global religious communities and expressions."  ~ Press Release

What fascinates me about this lecture series is its local focus.  It means the local community is recognizing the shifting demographics in their own town, and is willing to learn about the groups they are increasingly bumping into in their everyday lives.  This multicultural introspection is particularly profound considering I've heard Bradford residents describing their town as "Redneck".
